Content Addressed Storage - Storage Optimized for Fixed Content

Abstract:
In this presentation we will discuss how Fixed Content is different from transactional data and how this puts forward different design criteria for a Fixed Content storage platform. These challenges can be met by a new storage model called Content Addressed Storage (CAS). The presentation will explain what CAS is, why it is important and how it complements other Networked Storage topologies like Storage Area Networks (SAN) and Networked Attached Storage (NAS). Finally, the presentation will look at RAIN - Redundant Array of Independent Nodes - as a new, innovative hardware architecture for Fixed Content storage.
Bio:
Wilbert Hawinkel joined EMC in March 1998 and held positions as Field Product Manager, Technical Business Consultant and Consultant System Engineer. Currently, as EMEA Technical Evangelist Centera, his main responsibility is to consult EMC customers on how to most effectively deploy the EMC Centera storage platform into their Information Infrastructures. Previously, Wilbert worked 4 years for Oracle and 8 years for Wang in several technical-commercial positions. Wilbert started his carreer as a systems programmer/analyst at C.E.M., the datacenter of the 'Belgian Boerenbond'. Wilbert graduated from the University of Leuven as Commercial Engineer.
