New Announcements for zOS and Future Roadmap
Mr. Jürgen Ley
IBM (1.5B)
Abstract:
There are significant IBM investments in the zSeries systemsoftware and especially in the operating system z/OS. With the new z/OS 1.4 release we support important customer requirements. The value of using eServer zSeries in z/Architecture mode with z/OS is much higher than with running in S/390 architecture. In the area of 64-bit addressing of real and virtual Storage, the new and fast communication with HiperSockets between LPARs , the effective control of LPARs with Intelligent Resource Director and with the introduction of the new Workload Licence charges the price/performance of the zSeries is better. IBM Middleware uses more and more these new z/Architecture so the benfits are as well in the tradtional application areas but also especially in connection with new workloads.
In z/OS 1.4 are important new functions for networking, security and the support of open standards. With this release IBM announces also the future roadmap for z/OS, which will be presented.
In comparision to other operating system environments the z/OS systemsoftware and the IBM middleware are leading edge. z/Series with z/OS and IBM middleware are and will be in the future the base for enterprise wide and critical applications.
